Iyengar yoga, in comparison to other variations, is slow and methodical. The poses are held for much longer and the focus is on precision. Are my fingers and toes spread? Is the weight evenly distributed across the palms of my hands or between the balls and heels of my feet? Are my knee caps lifted, my inner thighs turning back, my hips squeezing in, my abdomen pulled back? The poses themselves are not the goal; the goal is to discipline the mind and the focus that the poses require, allows you to do that.
